From Young to Old

I got the nicest note from one of my oldest fans yesterday, and when I say oldest, I mean years.

Elaine Adler is an incredible artist that did a combined family tree for both my lovely wife Alice and I before we got married, almost twenty years ago. We’ve been sending her holiday cards every year since we’ve been married and she’s literally watched us become parents, and even seen our oldest one get into college through those yearly check-ins.

This year, we included a note about Moonshine: Path of the Raven in the card and she wrote us an email back saying that she doesn’t read so much anymore since passing 80 years old, but was hoping for an audiobook she could enjoy. To be honest, it was this very gentle prod that made me decide to get the audiobook done as soon as I could.

The day after I sent the announcement of the Audiobook, she sent a note saying that she started watching it on YouTube.

She even gave this wonderful little insight, “It is so homey ... so like feeling like my child-self being read to at bedtime, something that hasn't happened for me in more than 80 years.”

It’s interesting, and made me think that maybe I need to read to my own kids a little more. The parent-child connection often gets highjacked by things like television, homework, and of course, our phones, that perhaps I do need to read a little more to my kids, even if they’re big now. ;)

That’s all for today, just sharing the love that is circulating all around us! And thanks Elaine for giving me a listen!
